Hakuba Galette Lesson
Pension Tougarashi : ペンション と~がらし

Learn How to Make Hakuba’s New Dish Featuring Nagano-grown Buckwheat.

Matsumoto/Northern Alps

Description

Have the friendly folks at Hakuba Pension Tougarashi show you how to make the Hakuba Valley's latest local specialty, Hakuba Galette.

Recommendation

Hakuba was one of the main venues of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, and continues to be popular today with skiers from all over the world. Befitting of this international flair, but in combination with the rich local farming culture, the area has introduced the Hakuba Galette -- a French culinary specialty using buckwheat from the Hakuba's soba fields. Hakuba Galette is becoming a hit in the area, with over 40 restaurants and hotels serving it (as of early 2014), many with their own original versions. A bit of Western style cuisine but using locally-grown ingredients.
